Well, it’s been a while since I wrote a top ten blog, and whilst doing some reading today I spontaneously started singing ‘The Circle of Life’ from the Lion King.

I thought about writing the Top 10 Disney Films… but realised that would be more difficult than… well the most difficult thing ever. I can’t think of what that might be right now. I’m not ready for that challenge. Maybe one day, but that day is not today.

But from the Lion King, I moved to Hercules, and onto the Jungle Book. From there I went to every Disney film I could think of and totally enjoyed myself singing along like I was 5.

So I thought I’d put together a list of my favourite Disney songs.

10. One Jump Ahead – Aladdin

I could’ve gone for the obvious, Friend Like Me or Prince Ali… but I do rather enjoy this song. Just a side… anyone listen to this and think it’s a better story than Les Mis? No? Just me then…

9. Dig Dig Dig/Heigh-Ho – Snow White

Heigh ho! Heigh ho! It’s off to work we go!

8. Following The Leader – Peter Pan

Can actually picture the boys walking around. Haven’t seen Peter Pan in years, but it’s still an absolute classic and this is my favourite from the film!

7. Be Prepared – The Lion King

It’s no secret that I prefer the bad guys in Disney films… Shere Khan, Hades, Jafar… but Scar was the first. It’s the voices… they’re all so well-spoken! Especially Shere Khan. But no one can beat Jeremy Irons. He’s the man. And his evil plot in song form is awesome.

6. Once Upon A Dream – Sleeping Beauty

I’m not really a sucker for the princess franchise of Disney, but I do love this song. It is the epitome of Disney: doe eyed, dream believing.

5.  Oo-De-Lally – Robin Hood

I LOVED this version of Robin Hood! Kevin Costner who? It’s the foxes. So awesome.

4. Be Our Guest – Beauty and the Beast

Utterly classic. And it’s Angela Lansbury too. Can’t possibly go wrong.

3. Under the Sea – The Little Mermaid

This is really on a par with Be Our Guest. Both as good as each other.

2. Zero to Hero – Hercules

Everyone always overlooks Hercules. Has possibly some of the best Disney songs ever in it. I love Meg, she’s seriously flawed, but Hercules is amazing. It’s such a great love story, but also a story about even the blessed have to work hard to be extraordinary… nothing is handed to you on a platter! Love the goddesses telling the story, which is why this song is #2.

1. I Wanna Be Like You – The Jungle Book

Best. Disney. Song. Ever. King Louis is awesome, but this film is my favourite Disney film, because Bagheera is my favourite ever Disney character, I love that this totally promotes cross dressing (I’m looking at you Baloo). Me and my family consistently quote “What do you want to do?” “I dunno, what do you want to do?” “Don’t start that again!” at each other. My eyes fill with tears every time you think Baloo has died. Get with the beat, Baggy! Everything about this film is perfect!
