You may or may not be aware, that for 4 years, I was the host of a radio show. It was called ‘Amy In The Studio’ (I think I must’ve been hungover the day I had to come up with the name). I had a small group of fans who tuned in every week. Fortunately, no one hung on my every word. But I had a few features that I loved and kept alive for most of my time on air.
One of these features was playing my lovely listeners a song that I was obsessed with and telling you all a little bit about it. So I thought I’d revisit it, because there’s a song I’m in love with at the moment that I simply can’t keep to myself. I need to share it with the world.
So stuck on repeat. Last week I walked to my church for youth group which we hold every week. I wanted to see if I could do it. But I was exhausted after walking, and hanging out with the kids for an hour. So I begged a friend for a lift home. He obliged.
Now, this friend. His Spotify playlists are possibly my most listened to. He has an amazing one called ‘Acoustic 80s’. Trust me. It’s brilliant. So we got in his car and he plugged in his phone and told me that I simply must listen to this guy, because he’s awesome. So he puts this song on as we stop at traffic lights. He explains to me that this singer is a Christian, but he doesn’t just sing Christian music. He’s pretty much an all-rounder. Now, to be honest, we were talking all over this song, so I wasn’t really listening. He then put on another track by the same guy.
At this point, he’s told me this guy’s name at least 4 or 5 times. And I can’t remember it. But, as I said, his Spotify is eagerly followed by yours truly. So when I get in, I have a quick look at what it was we were listening to and click on this guy’s name. Which is Martyn Joseph. I have no idea where to start, so I just shuffle everything he’s ever done.
Now, I had so much uni work to be getting on with that evening, I just left it playing in the background as I got on with my reading and studying. But my ears pricked up when this particular song came on. The guitar is just so gentle and the lyrics are so beautiful and tender. So I hopped up off my seat on the floor and favourited the track so I could come back to it later.
This song moves me, and I can’t express just how much I love it. This friend has a lot to answer for, but thank you so much for introducing me to Martyn Joseph. His voice is beautiful and Turn Me Tender is such an amazingly beautiful song. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
The video below is live, and not the best quality. If you’re a Spotify user, you can find this amazing song here.
